food pantry

this week i only went to the food pantry for half the time i normally do. this week we had twice as many volunteers as we normally do. this may be due to the fact that during this time of year, more people fee the need to contribute since Christmas is coming close. there are also more people in need coming in. i feel that this is due to the fact that these people as spending more money on heating, so they are running short on money for food. this is why i chose to volunteer, to help these people in their time of need.

greek club 12/10/2009

this week in Greek club, we had an overall review. we went over declensions and vocabulary. i found this tough for me to do. i had not looked at the declensions in over two weeks ago since i did not participate in the class a week ago. however, i found out that i remembered them once i took one view. this shows me that even though they are not fresh in my mind, i still have a memory for Greek and expanding my ability to remember the language and use it.

plymouth coalition for the homeless 12/2

this week at the food pantry, there was an unusually large amount of people there to pick up food. this may attributed to the economic troubles that the country is in right now. most of these people are unemployed, or work for very little. it doesnt seem right to me that they go with out food for the winter, especially in these time where finding a job is difficult. i even get to talk to some of these people who come in. there is one man who cannot earn enough money because of the restriction of Social Security and his Health problems. its just not right that he should go hungry because the government says he cannot work more that a certain amount of time and the money he does make goes to maintaining his medication for his body.

Greek club 11/19/09

in this class we learned the second declension in Greek. like the previous declension (first) the pattern is relatively the same when it comes to writing each form of the verb. again, this part of learning greek is difficult to memorize, but after i have done that, i should have no problem recognizing the form when it is in a passage.

thanksginving turkey program

for the turkey program, Eric, Nathan and i had raised enough money from out advisory and took it upon ourselves to purchase the turkey goods. after school on Friday, we drove over to the market ourselves to buy the goods. after we had gotten all the items, the three of us brought the food items back to the school where they were kept to be delivered on monday.
i feel that i had learned a good amount about initiating activities through this opportunity. by undertaking this with two other students, i feel that i have learned to lead properly and to follow closely. i also learned how to cooperate with others better than i have before on organizing the program. along with the cooperation, i learned how to take initiative. since this was something that no one really wanted to take charge of, Eric, Nathan and I decided to do it and from there we organized it ourselves and completed the program, gathering the largest amount of food for the program from our school.

greek club 11/5/09

this week in Greek club, we had just learned new words which are useful in the curriculum we are being taught. at this point in the club, i have memorized almost all of the pronunciations and symbols that accompany the Greek language. even though that class was small, which meant that there wasn't much to teach, i still have progressed to the point were i do not need to view a pronunciation sheet. however, i am still struggling on understanding meaning but i an getting there.

Greek club 10/22/09

during this class, we had gone over the 2nd declension in class and its pronunciation. i am still struggling in that altercation of alphabets and i am trying not to interject the English alphabet into the translation. however, i am getting increasingly better at pronunciation of the Greek as well as the recognition of certain letters. it is still difficult, but learning a new language isn't easy, especially at my age.

Greek club 10/15/09

during Greek club this day, we did our first translation of greek. with it being the first, it was difficult for me to translate. however, we got through it together as a class. the one thing that really messes with me on these translations is the difference in the alphabet. i am still adjusting and learning the letters and there pronunciation, but i am progressing as i know half of them right now.

ultimate frisbee

i again went to frisbee on the green this week. even though it had been two weeks since i had gone i felt that i had done better than i did the first day i had gone. provided that there was an unprecedented amount of kids playing, i had done my part in aiding my team. i have not yet reached my goal of catching and throwing a touchdown pass, i have successful caught and passed a few throws.

Greek club 10/8/09

we met again on Thursday of this week. this meet was rather unprepared since our advisor was not present on average, it was not as productive for the whole group. however, i feel that i had done better at understanding the language. during the class i was able to memorize the first declension. even though it was a small accomplishment on my part, it was still something that i can claim that i have learned in this club.

Greek club

i am beginning Greek club this Thursday October 1. i fell that this will be good for me because it will be expanding my linguistic knowledge apart from English and Latin. i also feel that taking up this activity will be good because it is expanding the audience of the language, and not shrinking it. of course, i will not know how this will go until i actively participate in the group.

Thursday October 1: after school i joined Greek club. my first impression is that it looks like a difficult transition from the English alphabet to the Greek alphabet. i was am two classes behind so my understanding was limited as to what letter names and pronunciation was. however, i feel that i can catch up within the week so i will be on par with everyone else after next week.

ultimate frisbee

september 11.
i started ultimate frisbee this day. as the first day back for playing, i was in the best place for playing. i was still rusty becuase i have not played frisbee since the spring of my junior year, so i cannot throw the frisbee as well as i could have. however, this did not stop me from trying to participate. my goal of at least throwing/recieving one touchdown throws is still my first goal to measure my progress

Plymouth coelition

on wednesday, june 3rd i returned to the food pantry at the homeless shelter in plymouth. when i was there i aided people who were in need of food. doing this increased my understanding of those who are less fortunate and in need, especially in this economy.
